Let’s adhere to our motto of “FAMILY, FUN & FITNESS”
Our Philosophy and Goals
Little Athletics was founded to offer athletic track and field opportunities for children under 17, as senior clubs did not cater to this age group. The focus is not on creating highly specialized athletes but on providing basic athletic training and competition for a wide range of children who otherwise lack opportunities.
Specialisation in athletics is generally discouraged until mid-teens, as younger children benefit more from a broad exposure to various events. Specialist training is better suited for those in their mid-teens, guided by experienced coaches. Little Athletics aims to reach as many children as possible, offering diverse events to build a strong athletic foundation.
Parental support is vital to our success. Small, well-supervised groups help children learn more effectively and enjoy their experience. As children grow and their physical abilities stabilize, they may choose to specialize in specific events, supported by the Hills District Athletics Club, which has a strong track record of nurturing older athletes.
Our competitions focus on self-improvement, encouraging children to track their progress and develop resilience. Little Athletics is a community-driven effort that thrives on parental participation, embodying the core values of “Family, Fun & Fitness.” We are not a child-minding service but a cooperative community project fostering organized, enjoyable sports for children.
The Hills Little Athletic Centre commenced its first track and field season in 1972 and is one of the largest clubs out of 200 Centres in NSW. There are approximately 40,000 “Little Athletes” throughout NSW, and around 85,000 nationally. Hills Little Athletics Centre Inc. is incorporated under NSW law and is affiliated with the Little Athletics Association of NSW Inc.
Our Centre is operated on a non-profit basis, and is operated entirely by parents and family members as well as former Little Athletics parents on a voluntary basis.
LIFE TIME MEMBERS
We have been fortunate to share in the lives of so many wonderful people throughout the Club’s history, and even more fortunate that some have chosen to share a large portion of their life in driving the Club to be the best it can be.
Life Membership may be awarded to such individuals, those who has shown distinguished service in advancing the Club over a long period of time.
